Tarff Valley was delighted to welcome Finlay Carson MSP for Galloway and West Dumfries to Tarff Town and Country, Dumfries, for a ministerial visit focusing on the diverse educational pathways offered by Tarff Services.

During the visit, the Tarff Services team showcased the growth and success of the National Progression Award in Agriculture (NPA), as well as the Pre-Apprenticeship and Modern Apprenticeship programmes. These initiatives play a crucial role in equipping young people with the skills and experience needed to pursue careers in the agricultural industry.

A highlight of the visit was hearing from current and former students who have participated in these programmes. They shared their personal experiences and insights into how these opportunities have shaped their learning journeys and career aspirations. Their testimonials underscored the value of hands-on training and the impact that structured educational programmes can have on young people entering the workforce.

In addition to student participation, we were joined by teachers from Castle Douglas High School and Kirkcudbright Academy. They discussed the benefits of offering the NPA in Agriculture as a timetabled subject, providing students with direct access to industry-relevant knowledge and skills. Representatives from Skills Development Scotland and Developing the Young Workforce Dumfries & Galloway were also in attendance, further demonstrating the collaborative efforts that support Tarff Valley’s educational programmes.

We extend our sincere thanks to Mr Carson for taking the time to visit and learn more about how Tarff Services is supporting young people in their career development. His engagement and interest in our programmes highlight the importance of fostering educational opportunities that bridge the gap between learning and employment in the agricultural sector.

At Tarff Valley, we remain committed to nurturing talent, providing valuable training, and ensuring the next generation is well-prepared for a bright future in the industry.
